Arrive about 10 minutes early so you can settle in and leave your outside world outside for a while. Take this time to sit or lie quietly and connect with your breath and find your center.
Do not eat for a couple of hours before class. Digesting food uses energy that can make you feel lethargic. A full stomach can also cause cramps or nausea especially in deep twists, inversion and forward bends.
Please let your teacher know about any injuries you are dealing with before class. Remember the first yama is “Ahimsa” or non-harming. Please skip poses or rest during poses that are not available for your body and practice today.
Create an intention for your practice. An intention allows for more focused awareness and understanding throughout your practice. It may be for yourself, a friend or a particular cause and may or may not change daily.
Please turn cell phones off. Leave socializing and business outside the studio. This is your personal time-honor the peace of the space and your practice.
It is highly recommended that you have your own personal yoga mat.
This is for both hygiene purposes and creating a personal space that you come back to time and again. As well, please refrain from wearing perfume to class as some students are allergic.
Please pick up all props and neatly put them away after class
Please do not enter class late or leave early- this is highly disruptive to others
Take a bit of time after class to reflect on what you learned. Review the poses you practiced and note any instructions that particularly made sense(or not). Even if you remember only one thing from each class-you’ll soon have a lot of information to take ”off the mat’’ out into your world.
